Winsmead Readers Book Group

Public·7 members

The Winsmead Readers Book Club meets at the Constitution Hill branch of Parramatta library at 10.00 am on the fourth Friday monthly. The library staff selects our books from suggestions we give them. In November we were given 3 Books to cover the holiday period. One is "Edenglassie" by Melissa Lucashenko. The other two books are by the same Irish writer Claire Keegan, "Small Things Like These" and "Foster". Both these books are on subjects considered rather controversial by some but very interesting. Our next meeting will be on Friday January 23 at 10.00am. We have room for two more members if you would like to join us. For more information, please contact Aline on 0409 340 059

The Winsmead Readers meets at the Constitution Hill Branch of Parramatta Library on the 4th Friday of the month at 10.00 am. At our last meeting we returned the “The Ledge”, by Christian White. A Story that raised many questions regarding the habits and behaviour of teenagers. It was a story that moved from the past to the present with complications. Our group gave it 7/10.

Our current book is “The Bookseller at the end of the World” by Ruth Shaw. It is a memoir of woman moving from her childhood through to her late adulthood. I think our group will find it an easy read but I’m not sure if people in New Zealand will appreciate the description of their island as “The end of the world”.

Our next book club meeting will be on Friday November 28. We are able to have two more members so join us…

Our last book was “The French Agent” by Belinda Alexandra, and we gave it 7.5/10. It was about how the Second World War effected individuals and families in Europe and Australia. An interesting book.

The current Book is “The Ledge”, by Christian White. Have you ever read a book that you just have to read and you can’t put down. You also continue to think about the characters when you finish reading, well that is this book. It keeps you guessing and when you think you have the answer then you have to re-think it. It will be interesting to find out what the whole group thinks about this book. We will find out when we next…

The Winsmead Readers Book Club meets at the Constitution Hill branch of Parramatta library at 10.00 am on the fourth Friday monthly. The library organises the books for us using our suggestions. The book we are reading at present is “The French Agent” by Belinda Alexandra set partly in Sydney. It demonstrates that the repercussions of war last for generations.

We have space for one more member. Our next meeting will be Friday 26th September at 10.00 am. For more information, please contact Aline on 0409 340 059.
