Winsmead Readers Book Group

The Winsmead Readers meet on the 4th Friday at 10.00, each month at the Constitution Hills branch of Parramatta library. We have one vacancy in our book club. The Library staff in Parramatta supplies the books for us following our suggestions. Our next meeting will be 23 October. The latest book was “Chai Time at Cinnamon Gardens”, by Shankari Chandran. It was well received by our members due to the story line and the intricacies of life in Sri Lanka not long after the name change from Ceylon. The story also involved a family who owned an large old house in Sydney which became a place of refuge for many elderly Sri Lankan people. An interesting book! The current book is completely different because it involves two young women who lived through a terrifying ordeal and only just make it out alive. It is called “The Long Night” and it is written by Christian White” who is an Australian author well known for his 2018 debut novel, “The Nowhere Child” and other bestsellers.
